ALPINE SKIING: FINGERS CROSSED, THE BORMIO DOWNHILL IS BACK

Scent of a calendar for the 2017/2018 season, with some news among which, one, risks tickling the palate of great ski enthusiasts .

According to reliable rumors, the men's "downhill" at the end of the year, after 4 years of captivity in Santa Caterina Valfurva, should make its triumphant return to Bormio, on the legendary "Stelvio" slope. The one that in the past was defined <<the theatre of La Scala of winter sports>>, and unanimously recognized as one of the most technical and difficult slopes on the World Cup circuit, has seen athletes of the caliber of Maier, Alphand, Kjus and Miller triumph over the years; as well as our Paris and Innerhofer.

Also Alberto Tomba, in a giant slalom many years ago, triumphed on this slope which had become a fixed stage of the World Cup at the end of December. And precisely by virtue of the period, coinciding with the greatest influx of tourists for the Christmas holidays and the consequent "discomforts" caused by the impossibility of skiing on those days, had led the FIS to divert the event to a nearby and less touristic resort than Bormio (but still up to the mark, with its "Deborah Compagnoni" slope).

Now we are only waiting for the official confirmation of the news. The FIS World Congress, which will meet in a few days in the Slovenian town of Portorose, will lift the reserves and tell us whether one of the most loved stages of the White Circus will return to be a protagonist.
