VONN, THE STRONGEST SKIER EVER, IN A WEEKEND TINGED WITH AZZURRO. SUCCESS ALSO FROM CROSS-COUNTRY.

On the day in which Lindsay Vonn wins her sixty-third World Cup race self-crowning “the strongest skier of all time”, the Azzurri team takes stock of the three days of skiing just concluded.

Another high between yesterday’s downhill and today’s super-G would have decreed it the perfect weekend, but Italy’s skiing can nevertheless rejoice for some great placings: the victory of Elena Fanchini and Merighetti’s third place in the two downhills of Cortina (the first made up for the one canceled in Bad Kleinkircheim); and Gross’s second place in the slalom in Wengen.

The less cheerful notes come from yesterday’s downhill, in which our speed skiers did not particularly shine (first Azzurri Heel, only 18°), and from today’s super-G, in which Nadia Fanchini’s eighth place was the best placing. Bad fall by Merighetti fortunately resolved with just a few scratches.

The Azzurri team, only two weeks from the start of the Vail World Championships, can nevertheless hold their heads high and present themselves to the final appointments before the world tournament – St. Moritz for the women, Kitzbühel for the men – with the best prospects.

Satisfactions also from cross-country, with the pair Pellegrino – Nöckler who obtained third place in the freestyle pair sprint in Otepaa, in Estonia.
