HISTORIC DAY AT THE SNOWBOARD WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS: GOLD FOR MATTEOTTI AND BRONZE FOR MOIOLI IN THE CROSS EVENT

Italy hits the ground running at the Snowboard World Championships, which began yesterday in the Austrian town of Kreischberg.
The Azzurri team in fact wins the world gold in snowboard cross thanks to Valdostan athlete Luca Matteotti, able to prevail after racing a semifinal and a final perfectly. For Italy (“the strongest in the world”, as sporting director Cesare Pisoni proudly called them) it is the first ever success in cross; a victory that comes after a drought of wins at the World Championships that had lasted since 1999.
The Azzurri team – which even in the last three years had been able to achieve important results at other events – thus receives a well-deserved recognition; made even sweeter by the women's bronze, also in cross, won by the very talented Bergamo athlete Michela Moioli.
