7 tips for your snow holidays in complete safety

How important is it to fully enjoy a pleasant day on the slopes while feeling completely safe?
For Rent and Go, safety on the slopes has always been an absolute priority. That’s why we want to give you some tips to ski with total safety and peace of mind.
1. Always wear a ski helmet

It may seem obvious, but the helmet is a safety device that can really make a difference in case of a fall or accidental collision.
Since January 1st, 2022, wearing a helmet on the slopes is mandatory for all minors under 18 (previously under 14), but common sense suggests that adults should wear one too.
However, not all helmets are the same. Sometimes people ask if they can ski with a bicycle helmet. Well, we don’t recommend it!
Helmets defined as “ski helmets” are specifically designed for this sport, which has very particular characteristics, different from other activities.
At Rent and Go rentals you will find CE-certified helmets of various models (with or without visor, ventilation adjustment, etc.), but it’s important to ensure a proper fit to guarantee safety in case of a fall.
Ask our specialized skimen at Rent and Go for assistance in choosing the perfect helmet for your needs.
2. Check your ski binding adjustment

Ski bindings are also crucial for your safety and must be adjusted correctly.
Skis must release in case of a fall or collision to avoid injuries to leg joints, but should not release accidentally.
For this reason, there are tables that provide ISO-standard settings based on the skier’s physical characteristics.
As this is a key safety factor, we recommend contacting an expert Rent and Go rental technician to correctly adjust your bindings and enjoy skiing carefree.
3. Respect speed limits

There are also speed limits on ski slopes, and they must be respected.
Follow the slope signage and use good sense to judge your safe speed, considering how crowded the slope is, the presence of children, and the equipment you are using.
Those who don’t respect limits may face fines between €50 and €150, as well as being a danger to themselves and others.
4. Do not use alcohol or drugs
The same rules that apply to driving on the road also apply on the slopes.
Therefore, it is forbidden to ski or snowboard under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Law enforcement officers increasingly carry out alcohol tests at lift entrances or exits.
Fines can range from €250 to €1,000, as safety is considered the top priority for everyone’s well-being.
5. Choose equipment suitable for your skill level

Sometimes people overestimate their abilities and choose unsuitable equipment.
Ski and snowboard manufacturers design product lines for different skill levels, and Rent and Go rental experts often contribute feedback to improve them.
Beginners should use equipment from the “Basic” (3-star) or “Intermediate” (4-star) categories, ideal for easy turns and lower speeds.
Intermediate skiers should opt for “Intermediate” (4-star) or “Top” (5-star) gear, suitable for red slopes and occasional black runs.
Experienced skiers can choose from the highest categories, “Platinum” (6-star) or “Diamond” (7-star), featuring more technical models designed for higher speeds and requiring greater skill.
There are many types and models of skis, so it’s essential to ask Rent and Go staff for professional advice when choosing your equipment.
6. Use additional body protection

We’ve already covered helmets, but there are other types of protection that can prevent injuries and make your skiing experience even better.
Accessories like back protectors, elbow pads, knee pads, goggles and visors can be rented at all Rent and Go points, providing extra protection and a safer, more enjoyable experience.
7. Take out a liability insurance policy
Since January 1st, 2022, liability insurance (RC policy) is mandatory for all skiers, protecting you in case of damage or injury to others. Without it, you risk heavy fines and your ski pass being withdrawn.
