Elena Fanchini, sister of Nadia, wins a splendid victory in the downhill at Cortina d’Ampezzo.
Nine years after her first and only career win – on the snow of Lake Louise – the 29-year-old skier from Brescia takes a very satisfying revenge in a career marked by many sacrifices and just as many injuries.
On the day when the triumph of Her Majesty Lindsey Vonn, who is particularly attached to the Ampezzo slopes, was expected, it was instead the Italian athlete who surprised everyone on a course shortened at the last minute due to fog, which obscured visibility on the upper part of the Olympia delle Tofane course.
Her victory adds another piece to the extraordinary mosaic that the Italian teams, men’s and women’s, are assembling this season.
